MARV’s First Motor Test and Updated mini-PSU

After the previous post and a bit of soldering and waiting for inspiration, my Mom called from the Maplin store across the bridge saying that they were out of stock of LM317Ts and the other branch in Camden had 5 in stock. She insisted on going to Camden to get this but I told her not to bother and to just return home…

I then set about modifying the LM7812 I had and after a bit of tricky soldering and an initial breadboard smoke test, it was up and running perfectly!

An hour later, MARV had his very first motor speed test! You can see the PWM input to the motor as the top (yellow) trace and notice how the duty cycle increases resulting in a higher shaft velocity. The current draw is shown on the bottom trace (in blue) as the voltage across the voltage generating resistor.
