About

Welcome to my website and thank you for visiting!

Background…

I got my very first computer around the age of 7 or so. I can vaguely remember that it was a 286 and the distinctive ‘green’ only CRT. I witnessed a friend of ours assemble a P133 here for me and I was quite taken up by the process and little bits n’ pieces. I started assembling and messing with computers since then and it has been a long and fun ride.

My dad helped set up a company which I ran right through till I finished my A Levels in 2001. At the same time, I spent my days learning many a programming language which I’ve found quite usefull to this very day.

Going Back in Time…

To give you an idea of the computers I’ve owned and hacked apart here is SpawnBox2. The main mods here included the custom panel at the front, fan/lighting control via the switches and re-routing the NIC ‘ACT’ led to the front leds.

Followed by MithrilP4, which is still operational in my lab located downstairs:

And together they made an amazing setup:

This used to be my shuttle:

Current Setup

In late 2002, I purchased my very first Mac - and thinking back it was the a very wise move. This was in the days of OS X 10.2 - a Pbook Ti 15″. Since then I have been through five PowerBooks (15″ Ti, 15″ Alu/RevA, 15″ Alu/RevB replacement, 12″ Alu, 17″ Alu) and two G5s (1.6 GHz and 1.8GHz single core).

Back home in Colombo my main machine is a Dual 2.7GHz G5, and my Mom now uses the 17″ Pbook for her work.

This is my main setup at University. The main machine is an iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme and my laptop is a 15″ 2.33GHz MacBook Pro. Both units have 2GB RAM, which is vital for OS X. It also has 2TB (yes, that’s ‘terra-bytes’!) of attached external storage over FW800 in RAID0, holding two duplicate backups as a pair of 1TB storage.

Update: I have just shifted apartments and this is my current setup consisting of my iMac and a new Dell 24″ 2408WFP in portrait mode.

This is my TV, a 32″ LCD by LG, which is connected to my PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4 was amazing on it…

Home Theatre

This project took nearly a year and recently I upgraded the front floor standers to a pair of DM604 S3s. This now allows me to later put this into a full 7.1 configuration once I shift this into a larger room.

This project has been fully detailed in a ‘project log’ of sorts, and please feel free to take a look!

Education & Qualifications

On the 30th of June 2006 I graduated from the University of Leeds, School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, UK with a BEng Honors degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering. I have also been accepted to pursue postgraduate studies at King’s College London in MSc Mechatronics, starting September 2007.

I would have to say that the highlight of my undergraduate studies has definitely been my final year project titled ‘Optical Mouse-based Odometry‘, designed for RABOTA, a MEng project involving the deployment of an autonomous railway search-and-rescue robot as a technology demonstration for Network Rail, England.

I am currently pursuing a Masters in MSc Mechatronics at King’s College London, and will be finishing the course in September 2008, whilst graduating in January 2009.

As for my home it is located in the heart of Colombo, Sri Lanka. I will not try to explain how nice ‘Sri Lanka’ is but you should consider visiting our island country when you next decide to go on vacation.

I frequently update the images held in the gallery, so please feel free to browse through. If you would like to contact me you may do so by clicking here.

I hope you have enjoyed the site as much as I do maintaining it!
