Rolex: Submariner Sea-Dweller 16600

I will try to keep this as brief as possible, as I am in the process of dedicating a review to the Dweller.

Something that may not be initially obvious is that one tends to grow into any hobby and as such, on my journey of being a WIS, I thought I’d look ‘across’ from the Omega pond and next decided to consider the big ‘R’ - Rolex.

Over the many years, I have been put off by the stigma associated with the branding of their timepieces, and the usual first thought of anyone - “is it a fake?” but once I started to research their timepieces, the “tool” watch philosophy behind most of the Oyster line - and to my surprise, the cost wasn’t as high as initially perceived. Heck, if you want expensive you are best off buying a fancy watch on Hollywood boulevard featuring a basic quartz or mechanical ETA movement with a $100k price tag - however, the discerning would probably settle for something IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, Patek or A. Lang & Söhne; basically the upper most echelons of haute horologie!

Long story short, I fell for the Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600, and to my horror, had a hard time sourcing one in London. I ended up calling around 6-8 ADs who all told me that they had 4-8 week waiting lists on 100% payment and that I was out of luck. Thanks to Charles & Harry of the Rolex forum @ TimeZone.com, I was directed to a particular AD in the Brent Cross area who was able to have one waiting in-store for my collection on landing in London - an extremely fantastic experience!

Here are some more snaps of this lovely timepiece,

This comparative review has been authored by Shaun, and is being published here with his express permission. It pits the Omega Planet Ocean vs. the Rolex Sea-Dweller in this extremely factual and well-thought review, which is less biased than most and is an extremely enjoyable read.
